Fiabaday 2022: Adria Ferries protagonist on the national day for the removal of architectural barriers
60 guests with disabilities and reduced mobility visited the AF Marina on Tuesday 18 October.
Sunday 2nd October 2022, the XX edition of FIABADAY "National Day for the Removal of Architectural Barriers" was held, promoted by FIABA Onlus in collaboration with the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the General Command of the Port Authority Corps - Guard Coastal.
The ONLUS Fiaba has been active since 2000 and was born with the aim of promoting initiatives in favor of people with disabilities throughout the Italian territory, organizing trips and visits in order to raise public awareness on the importance of removing architectural barriers.
The awareness campaign of this edition is entitled “Breaking down barriers is possible. Let's do it!". The lack of accessibility leads to social exclusion: the problem of the individual thus takes on a collective dimension. Even small actions can make a difference in creating a world without architectural barriers and accessible to all people. This is why the campaign offers some simple steps to follow right away.
As part of the initiatives organized for FiabaDay 2022, on 18th October Adria Ferries welcomed 60 guests with reduced mobility on board the AF Marina ship from 7 associations and assistance centers in the Marche region, supported by volunteers from the Italian Red Cross and numerous officers of the Port Authority of Ancona. Participants in the event were offered a welcome breakfast on board, given a backpack with snack and some gadgets and organized a tour of the ship with the Captain and the crew as competent guides. The visit on the AF Marina was followed by a short trip to the sea aboard the tugboat “Elisabetta” of the SERS Company of Ancona. Adria Ferries, which has always been sensitive and constantly evolving in relation to accessibility issues on board all the ships in the fleet, is honored to support initiatives in favor of people with disabilities. For the Company, nothing is more important than the well-being and safety of all passengers on board. For this reason, every detail on ships is designed to meet specific needs as well. Common spaces, corridors, lifts and doors are designed to allow maximum ease of access even for people with reduced mobility. In addition, the staff on board and the entire crew are trained to provide all the assistance necessary to make the crossing comfortable and relaxing.
